Virginia Tech Tennis Star Walks through Virginia On His Trek Across US To Thank Brain Surgeon

Sebastien Jacques, a former Virginia Tech tennis star, was born in 1988 in Québec, Canada.  Today, Tuesday, May 2nd, he is just outside Farmville, Virginia, only a couple of hours from Locust Grove, as he walks his way across the country.  According to Jacques, he will be walking approximately a marathon a day as he makes his way from Virginia Beach to Santa Monica California to shake the hand of the surgeon that removed his, what some doctors said was inoperable, tumor.

Before his brain tumor diagnosis in 2014 and his surgery in 2015, this once championship tennis player had been reduced to being barely able to walk even 15 minutes a day and could not function properly.

“I am doing this walk because I want everyone to know that we are all capable of amazing accomplishments.”,  Jacques wrote on his website that follows his cross country walk.  “My mission during this walk is to share my opinion and views in schools on how we can overcome obstacles we face in life. I aim to share my joy of living and demonstrate that we must enjoy this amazing journey of ups and downs called life. Every day is an opportunity to become a better person and to strive for greatness. To make people understand that we don’t choose what life throws at us, but we do choose how we react to those situations. By having a positive attitude, believing in ourselves, and staying focused on the task at hand, we can accomplish amazing feats. I will walk eight hours a day for seven months to demonstrate that we must keep moving forward when we think we’ve reached our limits; it’s during these moments that we discover our full potential.
