Due to several facebook posts and conversations with acquaintances lately about the strange behaviors of some individuals at our local shopping areas and by unknown vehicles and their occupants seemingly cruising some of the roads around LOW I was very eager to go to my meeting with Kimberly Taylor, who is the owner of Move With Purpose, LLC.

My own personal security and awareness of my environment have always been an objective of mine and when my daughter went to college, obviously the safety of young females in our society became a top priority in my book.  The statistics are frightening and being a proactive person I didn’t want to linger on the staggering stats but have searched for more proactive methods.  Which brings me to Kimberly Taylor.

I already knew Ms. Taylor was a Certified NRA Firearms Instructor with a strong history in Federal Law Enforcement.  What I didn’t know about this mother of teen(ish) girls was her undeniable passion for helping women and children feel more empowered about their own safety.  “I cover everything from digital security, and Identity Theft Protection, to how to have “healthy body boundary” discussions with children, and I even train my clients on various non-lethal protection tools– such as stun guns, pepper spray, and striking tools, which, I have available for purchase.”  Says Taylor, “Outside of that I also offer Gun Range introduction and several weapons classes. Typically, my ladies love learning this skill set from another lady!”

Another one of her passions is raising her children in a wonderful area close to family.  She chose to follow both passions right here in Locust Grove and we should be thankful she did.

I was very impressed not only with her extensive knowledge of safety and self-defense techniques but of the little things that we never think about in day to day life that could play such a huge role in protecting ourselves and our loved ones.  This is where her Federal Law Enforcement background obviously came into play.  Immediately I could feel her positive energy, definitely her passion, for wanting all women and children to know how to stay safe but also be able to defend themselves should it be necessary.  I could feel and share her sadness as she spoke of the women that she had read about in the newspaper that had become victims.  ”If only I had been able to talk to them first there may have been a different outcome,” she said sorrowfully.  And I believe that is true. Perhaps if these women had been able to attend one of Taylor’s Empower Hours (This is what she calls her in-home classes on how to use protection tools) it may have made a difference.

Should all women, of all ages, have training in self-awareness, self-protection, and self-defense?  In a perfect world, we wouldn’t need to and I personally think Lake of the woods is as perfect as it gets but, occasionally we have to venture outside the gates and occasionally there are people within the gates that we need to be wary of.  Would I carry a gun?  Not my style (although the purses she has for concealed carry are beyond cute!! Might get one of those just because!!) but for some, it may be just what you want or need.  Would I use one of the cute, perfect-size-for-my-hand, pink flashlight combo stun guns?  ABSOLUTELY!  Although just someone knowing I have a stun gun and that I am not afraid to use it (that is where Kimberly’s training comes in) would probably be deterrent enough to protect me.  If not – I could and would go all “Bug Zapper” on someone if I or my grandchildren were threatened.  That being said, I am going to gather a group of my friends and have one of Kimberly’s Empower Hours because I care about them and their safety.

On June 1oth Kimberly Taylor will be a guest speaker at the “It’s All About You” Women’s Fair in Culpeper, VA.   Here is a link if you are interested in attending this event.  A portion of the door proceeds from this event will be donated to SAFE (Services to Abused Families)!

If you want Kimberly Taylor to come to your house and show you and a group of your friends some safety techniques, tips, and tools give her a call –
